Movie Review: The Science of Sleep

Strangely enough considering its theme, I woke up this morning fresh and frazzled with dreams of Michel Gondry's beautiful movie, The Science of Sleep. I posted a brief review (of the movie, not my dream) on Dipu's Review Web site. Check it out if you're interested.

I'm undecided about whether or not I liked this movie. I agree with my friends in that the people in the movie are all very juvenile. This is where I disagree with you the most. I think their behavior makes the characters unrealistic. It almost hurts the story more than it helps it. But, the dream sequences are brilliant. While watching the movie, I found the constant switching between English and French very annoying. I wished they stuck with one or the other. But, I thought about it afterwards, and realized that the switching of languages and the flip-flopping between reality and dreams must be how the main character lives his life, and that helps me relate to him better. I think the concept of the movie was incredible, but the execution lacked because the characters. I liked Eternal Sunshine much better. My two cents.

Good points all. In response, I simply say what is more juvenile than falling in love? The characters are childish. But for me, that made the story no less real...
