(Somewhat Medical) Update Regarding Inappropriate Items Below the Belt
Since my recent post about what I found in my baby girl’s diaper, I have been advised by a friend (who is in no way an authority on such matters, but seemed to know what he was talking about, is very pretty, and is engaged to a wonderful girlfriend of mine) that you should never, ever, EVER pull anything out of someone’s butt. He formed this opinion after a very misfortunate circumstance involving his puppy and a cotton rug made out of a rather involved weave. (I will leave the rest to your imagination but will add that a veterinarian had to be consulted.) We discussed it at length and decided that although this particular incident involved a dog, the principle would likely apply to babies, cats, and other common household pets.
He was advised to trim the item as near to the source as possible, as opposed to tugging on it. The theory is that pulling something out of someone’s butt could cause damage to one’s internal organs, depending on whether it’s wrapped around something. Even with something as small as a hair, there’s no reason to take chances, especially with your baby.
So please, if you have the misfortune of finding something protruding from a loved one’s (or pet’s) nether regions, do NOT pull it out, as I did. Always consult your doctor.
Remember: clip it - don’t rip it.
