Turning Points

A condensed timeline of the major turning points in my life, inspired by Dipu’s theme week. Thanks, Dipu, for this great idea. It made me think.

I was born in 1971. I am hard-pressed to think of anything with a lasting effect on me until college, so that is where I begin.

  • 1992   My cousin, Dennis, died of AIDS-related complications.

  • 1992   Craig and I married and moved to Santa Fe.

  • 1993   Craig and I moved to Austin.

  • 1994   I started working at National Instruments. There, I met most of my closest friends.

  • 1995   My grandfather (“Papaw”) died.

  • 1996   Craig and I got separated. (Divorced followed in 1997.)

  • 1996   I met JM, although we wouldn’t find romantic interest in each other for well over a year.

  • 1997   Lisa and I took “our trip” to Europe. We found ourselves and each other. We made a lot of decisions on that trip and followed through with all of them.

  • 1998   I took a leave of absence from NI and spent three months in Spain.

  • 1999   I left National Instruments to work for a start-up (and consequently found my way out of the poor house).

  • 2000   JM and I moved in together.

  • 2001   JM and I got married.

  • 2002   JM and I lost a baby. We also bought a house.

  • 2003   I came to terms with myself (spiritually speaking) and converted to Judaism after years of consideration, independent research, and formal and informal study.

  • 2003   Elias was born.

  • 2005   Alena Mae was born.

  • And now I’m finally writing again...
