Turning Points
A condensed timeline of the major turning points in my life, inspired by Dipu’s theme week. Thanks, Dipu, for this great idea. It made me think.
I was born in 1971. I am hard-pressed to think of anything with a lasting effect on me until college, so that is where I begin.
My cousin, Dennis, died of AIDS-related complications.
Craig and I married and moved to Santa Fe.
Craig and I moved to Austin.
I started working at National Instruments. There, I met most of my closest friends.
My grandfather (“Papaw”) died.
Craig and I got separated. (Divorced followed in 1997.)
I met JM, although we wouldn’t find romantic interest in each other for well over a year.
Lisa and I took “our trip” to Europe. We found ourselves and each other. We made a lot of decisions on that trip and followed through with all of them.
I took a leave of absence from NI and spent three months in Spain.
I left National Instruments to work for a start-up (and consequently found my way out of the poor house).
JM and I moved in together.
JM and I got married.
JM and I lost a baby. We also bought a house.
I came to terms with myself (spiritually speaking) and converted to Judaism after years of consideration, independent research, and formal and informal study.
Elias was born.
Alena Mae was born.
And now I’m finally writing again...
